We took Turtle up to camp at June Lake and also visted Mono Lake, a really interesting and beautiful spot ... and brought along our friend Lee and our son Mark. We took our new kayak out in the lake, amongst the black flies (which are incredibly numerous but NEVER come into contact with people! very amazing).
Our great campsite at June lake
Looking down on Mono Lake
View of the tufas (calcium formations)
Looking towards Mono along the dirt road
Tufas with several gulls
They look like sand castles!
Some are really gnarly
The black flies!
Cynthia, as usual, is birding
Twin towers
They form under the lake and appear as it recedes
They are really cool ... too bad it's actually not good that the lake has receded
Wandering amongst the tufas by kayak
Pretty with mountains in the background
More tufas
Another set of twin towers
Black bird (they were all over)
Nice tufa
Sage Thrasher! (a new life bird for us)
A dust devil! (and view of volcanic hills)
OK, so I TOLD YOU there were a lot of black flies
But as you move your hand towards them, they all move away
