For the 10th anniversary of our first date (April 13), we decided to go in search of our 800th life bird (we had only 2 to go!). We thought it would be fun to share this adventure with our friends Cindy and William up in Seattle, and we did have a marvelous weekend.
We traveled to Bainbridge Island, and saw this gorgeous Bald Eagle
And later, another Bald Eagle landed RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, eating his carrion
Then he carried it away, flying right over our heads
We saw this sweet female Red-winged Blackbird, with nesting material in her beak
There were many Red-necked grebes in breeding plumage
William and I are searching ... and we found Rhinoceros Auklets!! (number 799)
We got a nice photo of this Western Gull ... but then we saw Mew Gulls too! (#800!!!!)
After a drive north, we enjoyed HUGE flocks on geese in the Skagit Valley
These were ALL running from ONE Bald Eagle
The lift off was noisy and exciting
Against the beautiful foliage (amazing tulips in the valley, too)
Cindy and William had bought a DELICIOUS cheese cake for our celebration!
