Terrific capture of the female Great Mormon butterfly. There are several color forms of the female of this species, but only one form for the male. Victorian butterfly collectors called them Mormons, because of the popular belief that Mormons have more than one wife. The different female forms are believed to mimic various bad tasting species to avoid being eaten by birds
