Toledo is the capital of the provence of Toledo and the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha in south-central Spain, and was declared a World Heritage site in 1986.
According to Spanish tradition, Toledo was founded in 540 BC by Jewish colonists who named it Toledoth. Later, after being incorporated into the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconsis, the city was known as Toletum.
There are many noteable sites to see in Toledo, including the cathedral and mosques.
