Vignetting test of HN-21 and HN-7 lens hoods on AF 50mm f1.8D fitted with NC filter (on DX format body).

Methodology:

Lens focused at closest distance, exposure 1/500s @ f1.8, i-TTL flash, blank wall as background. Auto levels, reduce size, Save for Web in Photoshop.

Conclusion:

Although the AF 50mm f1.8D obviously suffers from some light fall-off/vignetting (particularly in the bottom corners) even when bare, the addition of a filter and/or HN-7 lens hood does not appear to make the matter appreciably worse. I conclude that HN-7 lens hood is therefore suitable for use on AF 50mm f1.8D lens when used on DX format bodies, even if lens is fitted with NC filter.
