Story behind this is great. This painting was at the Art Institute for decades. An employee visited Picasso in the late 60's showed him a catalog. When Picasso saw the madona picture in the catalog he said 'wait here a minute' and came back with this fragment he had cut off in the 20's and gaveit to the museum.
