Between Van Horn and Valentine, Texas, a long US Highway 90 in the Chihuahuan desert, sits a permanent display of adobe brick, plaster, paint, glass, and several prada shoes and bags provided by the one and only Miuccia Prada. This West Texas image was captured a little before sunrise. I arrive early, and while driving south from Van Horn, Texas, I feared the clouds would blanket everything in a dull gray. Amazingly, as the sun rose in the east, the sky in front of me lit up with large thunderheads and everything turned pastels of orange and purple.
This West Texas landmark, often called Prada Marfa or Marfa Prada, was inaugurated on October 1, 2005, and cost ~ $80,000 to build. The building and concept is the plan of Elmgreen and Dragset and was assisted by American architects Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello.
