What I thought was a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron flying by turned into an American Bittern!
Here's a real juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron (first-year)
Valentine's Day approaches with all that hand-holding and smoochie stuff
Northern Pintail pair, my favorite duck and the one wild duck I have eaten
Speaking of eating, this male Surf Scoter ate at least 5 clams and mussels while I watched
Ruddy Ducks are diving ducks, but this female wasn't too successful in 3 inches of water!
Lesser Scaup head peaks nearer the crown and its bill nail is smaller than Greater Scaup
Check out the reflection of the scaup's head in the water (previous photo also)
Setting sun cast amazing light onto this Pied-billed Grebe
It went from snoozing
To looking around and then swam off
Tail end. Did you know Ruddy Duck belongs to the tribe of stiff-tailed ducks?
