Trude, I wonder if you should offer some of these on a regular basis to the Orange County Register. I used to be in the news business in the Middle West and we frequently bought this type of thing (before color was commong).

We're grateful for your inspiring photos, Trude. I'm happy you didn't remain a part of the group that frowned on zoo animals as shooting subjects. It's important to move on when people we encounter place their exclusive boundaries on our intentions and creativity.
have enjoyed going to the zoo since Mom took me as a child. These trips were a chance to observe plants and animals different from our neighborhood encounters, an opportunity to respect these differences, and a desire for these species to be protected. I developed a conservationist heart as a result of these trips, and believe in the zoo's goals of education and conservation.
At a wildlife photographer's meeting a decade ago, I summoned the courage to display my work for the first time. I shared stories of a behind-the-scenes zoo tour about behavior enrichment and how keepers work to keep their charges engaged in "normal" behaviors. I thought the polar bear submerging a penguin pinata to "drown" it and then swiping the head off with its huge paw was interesting. But alas, the photography group seemed to frown on zoo animals as shooting subjects, and so I never returned to the group. I shoot to get close to nature and refresh my soul. I then share my results as a story that entertains and educates. I have enjoyed preparing these pbase galleries to share with friends near and far. Trude
PS These photos were taken in the Rainforest Aviary at the Santa Ana Zoo.
