On June 23, the Audubon House volunteer phoned that I “had to come to the parking lot. A mom with her four kids wants a special tour!"

Apparently Mrs. Raccoon wanted to get under Audubon House with her kittens, and the house volunteers accidentally interrupted her. So she went charging off through the parking lot in the middle of the day.

I followed along as she and the kittens shrieked and chittered at each other. If they didn't move fast enough, she grabbed one and carried it. They moved into the Butterfly Garden but slowed down at the K-rail as she figured out how to hide the first kitten but still retrieve the others.

It was a great experience to see how she completed her mission: get the kids to a safe hiding place!
