O'Neill Park is a great place for a tracking workshop
Jon Young spoke about "What the Robin Knows"
We can watch and listen to birds to understand what's happening in the environment (Dark-eyed Junco)
Birds let us know when predators are around (Oak Titmouse)
Red-tailed Hawk "keeered" as I found a "sit spot" to observe birds
I selected a spot between oak and sycamore with a view of the streambed
I heard Yellow-rumped Warbler chip notes
Ruby-crowned Kinglet foraged out in open
Oak Titmouse fed in oak with flock of bushtits and acorn woodpecker
Afterwards, everyone reported subdued birds due to presence of Cooper's Hawk
I was at this zone's perimeter since I observed birds in the open and feeding (Black Phoebe)
Before the workshop, I watched this White-breasted Nuthatch eat an acorn
Afterwards, Raven chased this Red-tailed Hawk
It dove repeatedly in a mobbing attempt to drive the hawk away
We all know what the Red-tailed Hawk said about this encounter!
I finished my walk at the park with a Northern Flicker
I knew Mule Deer were present by their evidence
While driving from the park, I saw a Mule Deer!
How many Mule Deer can you find?
I parked then calmly and respectfully approached
Reward: What a beautiful Mule Deer!
Find the deer here!
This was a day of discovery and wonder with ideas to ponder later
I recommend reading "What the Robin Knows" by Jon Young
