We walked after a rain at the end of Silverado Canyon
This Red-tailed Hawk and a Red-shouldered Hawk chased each other in a territorial dispute
Dudleya and Yucca clung to the banks
Forget the road, we followed the stream until it diverged
Where there is water, there is a Black Phoebe
Where there is laurel sumac, there is a Yellow-rumped Warbler
Where there is a shady bank, there is a fern
Catkins are flowers of wind-pollinated trees
I liked these backlit leaves
This pine sprouts on bark of adult pine
We see growth everywhere (sycamore bud)
Beware the poison oak
This sycamore shows evidence of recent sapsucker (woodpecker) drilling
Listen to the intense sound of the rushing stream
Farewell from Western Box-elder Bug (a true bug, not a beetle)
Perfect day!

Maple Springs is in the Cleveland National Forest in the Santa Ana Mountains in Orange County, CA, at the end of Silverado Canyon Road. You need an Adventure Pass to park at the trailhead.
