Fire-followers are annuals that lie dormant in the soil until fire.
They sprout in winter, and by spring produce a spectacular display of color.
They are short-lived however and will be replaced by subshrubs
which dominate for 4-5 years until the shrubs overtop them.
The cycle continues...with the next fire.
