Stay home to do housework or take long walk at Baker Canyon (Santa Ana mts)? Easy choice!
Mule Deer doe greeted me before she walked uphill
Tarantula stopped on trail for cyclists. Males patrol the trails in autumn for mates (tarantula, not cyclists)
Lighting on Sycamore Leaf
Northern White-Skipper. Its caterpiller eats Mallow plant.
Calif. Sister is found near oaks, like this lichen-encrusted Coast Live Oak
Funereal Duskywing Skipper sips on a hot day
Umber Skipper
Wood Nymph with big bite in its hind wing, despite good camouflage.
Can you find the grasshopper? More good camouflage.
Galls on Coast Live Oak. Notice exit holes for emerging young insects.
Mallow flower. Remember Northern White-skipper caterpillars eat this plant.
Redbud has lots of red berries now. . .
. . . which show up in coyote scat.
I check tree cavites for occupants but didn't expect this!
I love the colors of autumn.....
