Osprey nest in Green Lake, WI - 2012

In May of 2011 a pair of Ospreys showed up and started building a nest on top of one of the big light poles in the city ballpark. They abandoned their efforts after about a week, and we decided it was because the structural characteristics of the light pole weren't really suitable for a big stick nest. We decided to build a platform and had Alliant Energy put up a new pole a little further back on the property -- up against a marsh. (With Alliant's help, we decided to put up three additional platforms in other locations around the lake.) This spring, on April 30th, the Ospreys returned to the ballpark, and although they added a few sticks to our new artificial platform we had erected, they have apparently decided to relocate to the big light pole where they were nest building for a short time last year. As of the last couple of days, they have built a pretty good-sized stick nest in that location on the light pole.
