The Regatta is a yearly event that is held in Charleston, WV. I believe it began in 1971. Basically they block off about 5 or 6 blocks of Kanawha (prounouced "Ka-naw" in hicklish or "Ka-naw-wa") blvd. near the river. It used to be a week-long event. Now they just have it over Labor Day weekend. They have vendors, amusement rides, concerts, boat races, etc. Actually it's hundreds of drunk rednecks that get together and party on the street. It's sorta like Charleston's version of Mardi Gras. I used to go all the time when I was in high school, and today was the first time I went to the event in over 15 years. I went on Saturday afternoon and got another kiddy coaster credit (although I can't really "add" it, as well as a paratrooper and roll-o-plane rides.)
Nolan Amusements, which is located in Zanesville, Ohio (and who owned the defunct Moxahalia Park that I visited once) provided the rides. The food was amazing! They have just about anything you want.
It was a nice afternoon out. Lots of interesting rides and attractions. The drunk rednecks usually don't come out until nightime though. ;-) I was bored, broke, and dying for something to do.
