Let's Tour London!
July, 2001 - I saw this monument daily, since it was outside my hotel in Hyde Park Corner. |
Since it rained on and off all morning, the British museum seemed to be the perfect place to dry off. |
The British Museum houses many Egyption and Greek artifacts, and of course, the Rosetta Stone! |
I couldn't resist taking a photograph of this unique sculpture to the right of the entrance. Very interesting, don't you think? |
Do you agree with this quote by Lord Tennyson? The juxtoposition of the quote and all of the feet is very creative. If you can't read the quote, click on the image for an enlarged version. |
This cat scupture is on display, and reproductions of it are sold in the gift shop. The actual cat is NOT on display! |
Another creative sculpture, which includes a human figure and a crocodile. |
A simple burial site with actual skeletons. |
This Neried Monument from the Lykian Tombs is a bit more elaborate than the previous burial site. It is of Greek and Persian influence. |
A painted terra cotta sarcophagus of Seianti Hanunia Tiesnasa includes a replica of her on its cover. (Etruscan 150-130 B.C.) |
The bronze face is on the wall adjacent to the sarcophagus. Scientists analyzed her skull and believe this is what she looked like upon her death. They calculated that she would have been about 50 years old. |
Something tells me that Seianti would NOT be a happy camper, if she knew that an older version of her has been made public over 2000 years after her death. Is nothing secret anymore? |
