Firefighter Memorial  in Capitol Park A close-up of the Firefighter Memorial Names of some Firefighters Killed on Duty. Note the attached photograph of John Eric Schmidt - LA. Plaque states that the Grove of Trees was planted in honor of Union veterans in 1897 using saplings from a southern battlefield.
Bell Bell - U.S.S. California' We have now left Capitol Park and are at the entrance to Sutter's Fort.  Gold was found here in the 1840s  - Gold Rush Inside Sutter's Fort, a place I have wanted to see for many years. Yep, I arrive at the same time as a 5th grade field trip...
This plaque contains a likeness of John Augustus Sutter & honors the centeniall of the founding of the fort. Central area of Sutter's Fort Another view... This building contained John Sutter's parlor, office, and a doctor's office.  This is where the 1st gold discovered was weighed.
