The International Freedom Festival Fireworks is an old tradition between the cities of Detroit and Windsor. The idea was conceived by Paul Lutzeier, a student at the College of the City of Detroit, now known as Wayne State University. He thought the two countries should share not only a border, but a joint Independence Day celebration. The celebration features the Target Fireworks display over the Detroit River.
We went across the river to watch them from the Canadian side, so the illuminated backdrop of the city of Detroit was behind the fireworks, adding beautiful reflections on the water.
If anyone gets the chance to shoot a firework display I would heartily recommend first reading
Mike Alexander's tutorial https://pbase.com/mikealex/shootfireworks to find out how best to capture them.
