What an exquisite shot of new life sprouting out of the destruction of this field of death! A perfect metaphor for the fleetingness of life, the red blood that was spilled by thousands of gallons decades ago, and the ugly stuffed sacks that were used to sheild the soldiers. The blue sky with its light clouds has seen so much carnage over the centuries, but still it keeps its lovely blue and reminds us, perhaps, that we need to be deeper and more vast in our tolerance, understanding and love towards one another...

If you know the history behind it, it's not a juxtaposition, but a unity of facts and stories. The poppy has become the symbol of WWI in Flanders, and this picture brings the two elements together. Well done.
