These caves are fun! February 21st Jennifer, Cristian, Deborah and I made a day trip to Venado Caves, a 1 1/2 hour drive north of Ciudad Quesada. Exploring a wet cave is a totally different experience. We tromped, craweled and occasionally wormed our way through streams. We got soaked and muddy. More than once, to Deborah's surprise and disgust, I used her pants to clean my grubby, muddy hands. There were tons of bats and piles of bat poo. Bat faeces were a potential danger to our lungs and so we wore smothering face masks. Highlights included the Papaya and Coral rock formations, cave spiders with super long feelers and the "Birth Canal" passage. It was like be born again!
Hey, looks like you guys had a good time! I'm going to Costa Rica in about a week and i was wondering, is it necessary to sign up with a tour company to see the Venado Caves or can you go on your own? The tours charge about $45-50, i figure it might be cheaper if i can get there on my own?
Thanks!

Thanks for the pictures, we didn't take a camera in so it was nice to have something to look back on.
