I am proud to call him " mon oncle"! He is a master craftsman in my eyes ... and I'm not alone ! His work is amazing and his workshop a place thar is truly wonderful to visit ! I'm super excited about the piece we purchased a number of years ago . Merci mon oncle Léon

Hi Everyone who might be looking at this thread. Leon is bringing the scales to me and we will photograph them tomorrow. I will put up some pictures so everyone can see what people are describing. He truly is a creative genius of Saskatchewan and a National Treasure. Trent

When I was growing up it was "just what Dad did" but when my high school art teacher made a trip out to our place to see his workshop and Leon Lacoursiere "originals" then turned and looked at me with tears in her eyes and said what a genius he was the penny dropped. I also remember having him bring in the scales to my history class for a presentation and my classmates be stunned silent. It stuns me looking back on it that he did bring them into a class of teenagers. Good Lord, what unabashed generosity!

It is amazing that the scales dad created in 1984 are almost 30 years old. I would love to see Trent do new photos. When posting them it would be nice to include copies of the original write ups as well as the card the card that read " Un Known Artist , NFS" from the '85 conference . This piece continues to amaze my friends and family and leaves my husband mesmerized. Papa's talent is brilliant and he continues to achieve perfection in every new piece. The scales will always be a part of his history . I believe with all my heart that it is also a great part of Canadian history as well.

This is a vote for Leon as much as it is for Trent. It still blows my mind that, way back in 1984 when I was coordinating the Saskatchewan Woodworkers' Guild Annual Show, Leon quietly and quite timidly approached me and asked if I thought his work was worthy of inclusion in the show. He took me out to his truck and unwrapped his first piece. It was the balance scales, turned from wood and brass (I hope someone photographed that piece and can post it). It absolutely blew my mind--so tiny and so perfect. I had to hold myself back from belting him that he could even think that his work was not show-worthy :-) The other pieces he brought out were equally impressive. Needless to say, he was included in the show--brilliantly--and, as they say, the rest is history.
