Scranton Ave. + Brevier #clecorners -December 7, 2022
.
This Tremont neighborhood that’s on the west side of the Innerbelt has recently began referring to itself as ‘Lincoln Heights’, something I’m guessing the developers had something to do with. There has only been a few instances of the period of time that the ‘Tremont’ neighborhood was referred to as Lincoln Heights, as I previously found out when I was researching, ‘Cleveland; the making of a city’ by William Ganson Rose.
The book ‘Slovaks of Cleveland’ from 1918 describes the neighborhood being from W.5th to W.11th. and refers to it in the past tense.
The neighborhood was previously named University Heights when the Cleveland Institute was a thing and changed it not long after the short lived college went broke.
The three books that I've found that mention Cleveland's ‘Lincoln Heights’ are; ‘Cleveland; the making of a city’ by William Ganson Rose 1950, 'The Slovaks of Cleveland' 1918 and 'The book of Clevelanders' 1914.
