I went to the first ‘Artist Mixer’ at CMA’s Community Art Center in the Pivot Center located at the former Astrup Awning Co. in the Clark Fulton neighborhood.
A group of us were given a tour of the upstairs, where the ICA -Art Conservation nonprofit now calls home.
The Paintings Conservator, Wendy Partridge and the Director of Education/Outreach, Holly Witchey was our tour guides that did a fabulous job of educating me a great deal on a subject I previously knew very little of.
The photo of the three paintings that Wendy is in front of that are currently scheduled to be restored, represented three stages of restoration that is needed, the painting to the far right of photo is from the 17th century and will need the most work.
They also were working on a couple statues from the Roman Dynasty, including a mask. The American flag that was a ceremonial flag during the Civil War and will go back on display after the restore, at the Butler County Historical Center in Pennsylvania.
I highly recommend this tour of the second floor if any of you are given the chance.
