R.I.P. 615 Peachtree Building, Atlanta

At 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, an Atlanta landmark crumbled into
rubble and dust to make room for a sparkly new Cousins Properties Development, Fox Plaza.
The 615 Peachtree Building wasn't particularly handsome or particularly ugly, but it was
an interesting piece of 1960's architecture, with white Georgia marble panels on its exterior
and red travertine marble in its lobby. Several hundred people gathered at various viewpoints
along North Avenue and Piedmont Avenue to watch D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company bring the building
down. It took two years to build 615 Peachtree Street. It came down in 20 seconds.
