Monkees Concert in Austin, Texas, September 29, 1997
Some Monkees fans may have seen these photos of the concert at the Erwin Special Events Center on my old web pages on AOL and CompuServe. The old scans were done from prints from the local minilab and did not look very good. Since I now have a scanner capable of scanning film, I thought I would upload better looking images here.
These were taken with my old student camera - a Ricoh KR5 Super manual film SLR - and (I think) 1000 speed film. I was astonished that any of the photos came out at all, much less this good, considering that at that time I did not (and still do not) have much experience with low light photography (translation - I had very little clue what I was doing).
Smil3e posted her impressions of this concert on usenet the day after and I put a copy on my old Monkees web page (long gone - it was an AOL homepage and they got rid of those around 2010 I think?).
Any Monkees fans who want to download these for wallpaper or screensavers or other personal use can go ahead and do so. That's why I put 'em here. 8-)
I also have a small gallery of photos taken at a fan get-together before the concert. If you weren't there and/or you don't know any of these people, you'll probably find these photos boring as they're just snapshots of people sitting around eating and taking snapshots of each other.
OMG... great gallery! Brings back memories.... the first record I ever bought was from a garage sale for 10cents... Last Train To Clarksville.... VOTED ~
A great series, but presentation wise I would suggest that you have a look at the following site by Alex Couey. I like your style though and voted for the series. I did not recognize the monkeys but now that I have listened to some of their songs they do sound familiar. The great age of rock and roll.
