Prisoner carvings

view map

Abbaye de Fontevraud

At the beginning of the 19th century, Napoleon transformed the Abbey of Fontevraud into a prison, saving it from destruction.
New walls and partitioning were added to the existing walls making it more suitable for its new identity.
The visitor will discover the stones which still bear signs of a somber past.
