The Musée Cluny also known as the Museum of the Middle Ages in the center of Paris, France. This little museum,
while smaller and not as popular as the Louvre, offers quite a rich collection of artifacts. It is built
on the site of an ancient Roman thermal bath. The waiting lines are not as long as the ones found
outside the Musée d'Orsay or the Eiffel Tower and the neighborhood offers restaurants with delicious
menus for students on small budgets. A must see for everybody!

I would like to speak to someone from the Cluny museum. We have a very old antique replica of a throne chair from the Cluny cathedral. My number is 304-233-3102 in the United States. The reason I am writing is to try to reach someone that can speak English at the Cluney Museum. We have a rare piece of furniture that was purchased by my Great Grandmother Sallie Bennett in 1926. It is described as, From the Mrs.Henry Hollins Estate Sale lot #140 Carved Oak Hall Throne-With carved canopy top, the back set with two panels carved with Gothic perpendicular tracery with armorial bearings. Box seat with hinged cover. Reproduced from an original church throne in the Cluney Museum. Height 7 1/2 ft. We are attempting to determine the age, manufacturer and value of this item. We are considering if we would should contact a Paris antique dealer to return this France for its permanent future home. My mother has recently become deceased and our family is dispersing of her estate personal property. There are many unique European antiques in her estate collection. France was a frequented destination for my Great Grandmother and Grandmother. They both spoke French fluently. Unfortunately I do not. And would hope that we can establish some channel of communication to discuss this Church Hall Throne. I can email the auction catalogue description with the auction details of the American Art Association sale of the Hollins estate. This museum is most well known for its series of 6 large tapestries known to English speakers as "The Lady and the Unicorn." I personally like room 6, the stained glass room (Vitraux in French). These incredibly beautiful windows are located at eye level and you can get within a foot of them, with explanations of what you are seeing; in churches and cathedrals the stained glass are usually too far away, on there is little explanation. Any good guide book provides an explanation of both the stained glass room and the Lady and the Unicorrn tapestries. This is a "don't miss" musuem.--Historian08

Could anyone tell me if there is anywhere in Paris that lists photographers in practice in 1906? I have five beautiful portraits made by a photographer named Clarence Mutz (as nearly as I can read it.) A very old photographer here in the US told me several years ago that the paper they were printed on was unknown in this country in 1906 and was in use in France at that time. The person in the photographs was a student of a student of Paderewski at that time in Paris, so that would fit alright. I would very much appreciate any information you could give me as to where I should write for information about this photographer. Thank you in advance, Julia M. Kasch jmkasch@msn.com
