Tso Moriri, a remote mountain lake

Tso Moriri is a remote semi-saline lake six hours' drive south-southeast of Leh, the Ladakhi capital, and lies nestled on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau at about 4,520 metres altitude. It lies directly south across the ranges from the better-known Pangong Tso. On the shores of Tso Moriri, the tiny village of Korzok acts as a district centre for the Changpa nomads who roam the area. Our visit was prompted by the Korzok Gustor festival scheduled to take place at the gompa or Buddhist monastery here. The festival had barely begun by the time we left, but the journey was nonetheless memorable.

These images were taken with Nikon D300 using RAW format in July 2012, and are available for licensing.
