Djurgården and Skeppsholmen, together with tiny Kastellholmen, are the holiday islands of Stockholm. Although part of the metropolitan area they serve mainly as a green oasis for the city, home to woodlands and open country, amusement parks, museums, yacht harbours and historic sites. They form the southern end of the Royal National City Park. Djurgården was once the royal game reserve and remains royal land, but now hosts a variety of attractions including the Vasa Museum, Skansen Folk Museum - said to be the world's oldest open-air museum - and the Tivoli Grona Lund amusement park.
