Memories die hard in the elegant city renamed Ho Chi Minh. Uncle Ho now presides over the square facing the gingerbread French town hall. The red flag flies above the Reunification Palace, South Vietnam's presidential palace which the tanks gate-crashed in April 1975. Outside the city, must-sees include the Viet Cong tunnels at Cu Chi and, on a gentler note, the grandly ornate temple of the Cao Dai faith at Tay Ninh.
