Lukang

Lukang (or Lugang) is an historic port town named 'Deer Harbour' for the deer once hunted for their skins here by the Dutch. Founded in 1784, the town stagnated after its harbour silted up and is today, along with Tainan, one of the two best towns in which to see authentic Taiwan houses. Lukang's historic quarter survives today as a long wedge between two major temples.
