During the First World War, Germanton, New South Wales, decided to rename itself after an heroic British submarine commander, Lieut. Holbrook. In later years, and with generous assistance from Holbrook's widow, the town raised funds to purchase and transport historic submarines for restoration and display at this unlikely inland location.
