As one who also grew up in Hobart, Tasmania, I had become quite bemused with the fact-is-stranger-than-fiction story of how a pretty but relatively ordinary Hobart girl could meet and marry a handsome prince from Denmark. Wet weather prevented me from skulking around the Amalienborg Palace long enough to catch a glimpse of Crown Princess Mary, the former Mary Donaldson from suburban Taroona. Seriously though, there was much else to admire in the long history of the Danish kingdom, particularly in and around the Rosenborg Castle which is set within the King's Garden.
