Off the South Island of New Zealand | Christchurch, NZ | New Zealand's Subantarctic Islands | Macquarie Island

Christchurch, NZ

An overnight stay in Christchurch, New Zealand, following the February 2011 earthquake aftershock which cost 185 lives. Stone and brick heritage buildings suffered particularly from this seismic event, centred 10 km southeast of the CBD, which followed the September 2010 earthquake centred 30 km west of the city. The 'Red Zone' tour now provides visitor access to the exclusion zone 'Beyond the Cordon', which for the time being, blocks off a swathe of the city's heart. Since my visit in March 2013, the reconstruction of the city will have made considerable progress, thereby superseding many of these images.
