From street markets to sleeping rough; some glimpses of an alternative, unbuttoned Berlin.
Berlin's unconventional persona is said to date back to the Cold War days, when young West Germans moved here to enjoy free tuition and exemption from military service. There was also an kind of edginess, living day-by-day alongside the hostile presence of the Berlin Wall.
