The railroad that first used this depot was the Chicago, Iowa & Minnesota Railroad, later Chicago, Milwaukee, Gary RR. Eventualy the Milwaukee Road bought it out but the depot was no longer used after that. This depot was the James Greenhow Home and the Greenhow farm later became Kirkland, Illinois. The Greenhow Home / Railroad Depot still stands in Kirkland, IL. It was one of two similar homes built in 1850 by William Kirk and James Greenhow. It didnt become a depot until abt 1904, some 54 years after it was built. The Kirk home also still stands about a mile and 1/2 west of Kirkland, IL.
