For pretty much the first time ever I can honestly say that there was not one single “must see” performance on the entire line up for me this year. But I really don’t mind this because it gives me all the more time to wander and explore new surprises. Naturally the buzz was all about the Rolling Stones finally making Michael Eavis’ dream come true by headlining the Saturday night but in all honesty I really couldn’t face the vast crowds who would obviously want to see them and so my only visit to the Pyramid was to see Elvis Costello earlier that afternoon.
I did spend more time than I usually do at the Other Stage, where the addition of loads of flags in recent years has improved the previously rather sterile atmosphere. Particularly impressive were Amanda Palmer on the Friday and also Of Monsters and Men, who my kids dragged me along to see. Reggae veterans The Congos were perfect for a sunny Sunday afternoon at West Holts, while Rodriguez playing “Sugarman” in The Park was particularly poignant.
