It wasn’t a classic year for my tastes I’m afraid and I only made 2 visits to the Pyramid Stage all weekend. BB King can certainly still put on a great show at the ripe old age of 85 but I found Paul Simon’s performance to be deeply unmoving.
As always I spent far more time at my favourite West Holts Stage and, despite the rain, I really enjoyed Jimmy Cliff’s and Cee Lo Green’s performances on the Friday evening. Omar Souleyman was perfect in the Saturday afternoon sunshine but gig of the weekend was definitely Kool & The Gang who totally nailed the Sunday night headline slot with a seamlessly tight performance of all their 70’s hits.
Surprise of the weekend was Sound of Rum who we stumbled across by chance in the Leftfield tent. They are fronted by the immensely talented Kate Tempest. Miss them at your peril because they deserve to go stellar!
