It is called "the Surfing Capital".
Bell's Beach, famous for the Annual Easter Surfing Competitions, is a short drive (8km) to the South West of Torquay.
Note the correct spelling is Bell's, NOT Bells or Belles.
Torquay has the SurfWorld Plaza, a shopping centre which contains the largest collection of Surf Shops and Surf Gear in the World.
