Rainbow Six Siege is the latest installment in the long-running series of games that are based on Tom Clancy's books. The 10th book called Rainbow Six created the series in 1998. In 2015, following a shaky launch for Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft took a measured approach to make the game grow as an esport. After a number of years of investments and research, the game is on the verge of becoming a major game in the world of esports.

This is the way Rainbow Six Siege grew from an insignificant beginning to become an increasingly popular electronic game.

What is the Origins of Rainbow Six Siege?

The Rapidly Growing League of Rainbow Six Siege is the final release of a 17-games series. Its origins lead back to 1984 when American writer Tom Clancy published his first military-espionage book, The Hunt for Red October. The book would later become a motion-picture of major importance. It was Clancy's debut book. Clancy also made through video games, founding the studio Red Storm Entertainment in 1996 (it was was acquired by Ubisoft within four years).

Three series were developed loosely based on the works of Clancy, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. The book was released just two weeks before the publication of Rainbow Six Siege. It is a global anti-terrorism group known as Rainbow training for missions in varied situations.

In the case of Rainbow Six Siege, publisher Ubisoft implemented the "Game as A Service" (GaaS) model offering content and support in the long term to foster an active community instead of developing further projects. The model was ultimately effective: following successive updates of the game as well as content additions, the game has attracted 40 million players this year.

What is Rainbow Six Siege?

Today, the rapidly growing league of Rainbow Six Siege, the first game in the series solely focused on multiplayer, is available. This game of strategy (first-person shooter) is where five players work together to defend or attack an area on the map. The time limit allows players to earn points. The attacking side could win by releasing two bombs that are hidden in the map or simply by eliminating all defending players. A round is won by the defending team if they take out all attackers or eliminate the device which defuses a bomb within seven second of the time it is activated by the attackers.

The game starts with a pick-and-ban phase. This is similar to League of Legends, Dota 2, or Dota 2. It allows players to challenge their opponent's strategies. Before the beginning of a game the players select a diverse amount of maps (depending on the game length) and four operators - the characters that have their own set of abilities and tools, to ban. The maps for the match are picked and the match begins. Players choose their operator and their gear for each round, and they will consecutively switch between attacking and attacking and.

What is the Esports Strategy of Rainbow Six Siege?

Only two months after the game's release in January of 2016, Ubisoft announced the first Pro League circuit. The circuit was revamped to the traditional league structure in the summer of 2018. The circuit for competition is divided into two leagues: Pro and Challenger. The Pro League gathers eight teams and is played in four regions namely Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. The matches are unique (best of one) which are divided into six consecutive attacks and defenses. Matches are won by teams with seven points.

A season lasts for six months long. It is followed by offline Finals facing the two most successful teams of the four regions. The Challenger League relegates the lowest-ranked team, while the second worst needs to qualify in order to retain its spot for the following season. Challenger League is an amateur league that is based on the Pro League format. It is a chance for the first ranked team to be admitted to Pro League and the second best chance to get the place by beating the second-worst Pro League team.
