Roller derby season is upon us once again. As the spring season arrives, you can count on seeing a lot more participation in the skate sport. As you are all set to enjoy the thrill and excitement of roller derby, there are certain important steps that you and your teammates can take to ensure a successful and safe skating season.
So, you might have been practicing like crazy during the off-season to give your opponents a tough competition. Every time you fall during the practice season, your gears take a beating right along with you. Therefore, before you start your game, take some time to check your pads for wear and tear and any weak spots in straps and padding. Even the best quality pads can start deteriorating after hitting the ground for so many times. The golden rule to get maximum protection from your roller derby pads is to replace them once in every six months. Once your knee starts hurting, you must understand that the damage is already done and it is the right time to get yourself a pair of new knee pads. Most of the knee and elbow injuries caused during roller derby are due to the slipping of pads and bones hitting the floor.
If you are training for the roller derby for the very first time, you will certainly see changes in the size and shape of your body parts. Thighs may get bigger and biceps and triceps may get leaner. The extra fat from butt and knees started to disappear making them smaller. Soon you will realize that the roller derby pads that used to fit you like magic are no longer a good fit. If you are encountering the same, you may think of getting yourself a good knee gasket. Djokovic tennis bag around the pads helps in adding an additional layer of padding.
Check your helmet in and out. If your helmet has any visible sign of damage, it should be replaced immediately. Even if there is no visible damage, the helmet should be replaced after it has encountered multiple impacts. Also, make sure not to use any sort of cleaner or chemical to clean your helmet as it may hamper its durability.
Finally, check your skates to make sure that all the nuts are in place. Check our mouth guard fitting too! If your mouth guard is uncomfortable to wear, it may not offer the protection it should.
With proper preparation and right set of roller derby gears, you can make sure that you enjoy the sport to its maximum and give a tough time to your opponent.
