Backlinks are the foundation of every good SEO strategy. Without them, you will never gain the best placements for your website in search engines. But do not assume that just any links will do. There is a vast difference between high quality links and poor quality links. So many times I see inexperienced webmasters wanting to purchase large quantities of links from inexperienced link building service providers thinking they are growing their link popularity when, in fact, they are doing more harm to their own page quality score by practicing this method of link building. The search engines look at a number of factors when they are determining where they should place a site within their search results. While the number of inbound links is a part of the picture, the whole picture includes the quality and relevance of the links. A site with a smaller number of sites pointing to their page may very well outrank a site that has a massive amount of back-links just because the first site has inbound links from quality, trusted sites. Some venture to guess that one high page rank link is worth 100 from poor quality sites. I personally think it is worth a lot more. A link from a site that Google trusts, such as an .edu or .gov site can make all the difference when it comes to reaching the first page of the search engines. contextual backlink of the reasons these connections have such an impact is because they are harder to come by and it is assumed that those types of sites only link to other reputable web pages. Another factor is relevance. Just blasting your links out willy nilly may improve your numbers, but it will do very little when it comes to SEO benefits if the sites are not related to your keywords or site topic. There is also the association with a "bad neighborhood" factor to consider and that can be damaging to your site reputation if you are linked to the kinds of sites that are flagged by the search algorithms. Yes, building links to good quality sites takes time. That is another thing that Google, Yahoo and Bing also look at. There should be a natural progression of site popularity. It does not look natural to have 5,000 new links pop up one day and then nothing for another week and then another 5,000 suddenly appear. This pattern shows the search engines that you are trying to manipulate their ranking and may very well get your site de-indexed or banned. The best way is to find a means to get good, high quality inbound links and build a few per day. If you build 10 of these every single day, that will mean you grow your link popularity by 300 per month. That is nothing to sneeze at when they are all going to be counted and all from good neighborhoods and all from trusted sites. Doing this for even one month may very well put your site in the top spot if your keyword is not incredibly competitive and if it is competitive, without these kinds of links you do not stand a chance no matter how many low quality links you get.
