Article by-Krebs Dougherty What Is The Difference Between Dental Hygienist And General DentistrySchedule a visit to your dentist if you have sensitive teeth. Pain in your teeth when eating hot foods or drinking cold drinks may be indicative of serious dental issues. You may have a cavity, nerve inflammation, or nerve irritation. These are dental problems you do not want to ignore. Remember to clean your tongue. You may brush your teeth regularly, but are you remembering to keep your tongue clean as well? Cleaning your tongue is important, especially if you want your breath to smell clean and fresh. Make sure to scrape or, at the very least, brush your tongue on a regular basis. How Long Does A Cleaning Take At The DentistIn order to keep your teeth healthy and minimize health issues, which can arise as a result of poor dental hygiene, be sure to get periodic check-ups and cleanings. It is generally recommended that cleanings be scheduled twice annually. In addition to a brighter smile, regular cleanings enable the dentist to evaluate your dental health on an ongoing basis. Ask people you know if they have a dentist that they have had great luck with. Referrals are often the way to find the best professionals. You can make an informed decision if you also know their financial policies up-front. What Is General DentistryYou can introduce electric toothbrushes to your children starting at the age of three. You should always supervise your children's toothbrushing activities while using these brushes and make sure that your child understands that an electric toothbrush is not a toy and should only be used in his or her mouth. Sticky foods are terrible for teeth, but that isn't just sugary gums or candies. In fact, bananas carry a ton of sugar and will stick to your teeth, leading to problems. French fries carry the same hazard, plus they come with unhealthy fats and tons of sodium. Try to avoid both if you can't brush right after eating. You would be wise to use toothpaste that is age-appropriate for your child. Use fluoride-free, non-toxic toothpaste for your younger children, as they are more likely to swallow the toothpaste. Only you can know when your child is ready to use adult toothpaste, but there are some basic guidelines, which are clearly noted on the packaging. There are toothpastes made specifically for infants, toddlers, children between the ages of 3 and 5, and children who are older than 5. If you require a filling in one or more of your teeth, choose wisely. Tooth-colored composite fillings are an attractive, discrete option. However, this type of filling also happens to be less durable than most metal fillings. Metal fillings are also a better option for larger areas. Remember, looks aren't everything! Make sure to see the dentist at least twice every year. Even if you only have your teeth cleaned, the hygienist will note any developing problems and point them out to the dentist. It is much easier, and cheaper too, to have any small cavities fixed before they get any bigger. It's important to cut back sugar consumption to help avoid cavities. The more you consume sugar, the greater the risk of getting cavities. Drinking soda or fruit juice can be detrimental to your dental health, so try drinking a glass of water instead. If how much does a crown cost are important to you, eat sugary foods on just special occasions. Are your gums getting softer, feel inflamed or look swollen? These are signs of gum disease. You should go to your dentist right away to have your gums inspected. You can overcome gum disease if you are ready to improve your oral hygiene and make some changes to your diet. Visit your dentist twice a year. Every visit increases the chance that a problem will be stopped before it gets out of control. Say you have a little cavity that your dentist could fix easily but you don't see the dentist right away. By the time you get there, you might need a complete filling. When you are trying to keep your teeth healthy, it is important to clean your tongue. Bacteria can build up on your tongue if you are not cleaning it properly or frequently. To clean your tongue, you can use your toothbrush or a tongue scraper. Both work equally well at cleaning your tongue. Avoid foods and drinks that stain your teeth. This will help keep your teeth white for a longer time. If you do consume foods or drinks that will stain your teeth, brush immediately afterwards. You can also use over the counter teeth whitening methods or professional whitening to keep your teeth white. If you need to have a dental procedure, try not to stress out about it. Many people avoid visiting the dentist because they are afraid of what the dentist may say, or what may need to be done. If you avoid going to the dentist, you may end up with bigger problems than what you originally had. Your teeth are not the only thing you need to take care of for overall health, but if they do not look good, you do not look good. With proper care, your teeth can look good throughout your life. Treat them well and you'll look younger than your years. Be proud of your pearly whites. ![]() |
