Welcome to CS:GO 101, where the basic aspects of the game are explained down to the very intricate details so you can develop an understanding worthy of a professional player.

Today it is time to take a look at utility, that fancy stuff people like to throw around the map so much. First things first, what really is utility? It refers to the five types of thrown weaponry of which you can carry four units, with some limits. The molotov (or incendiary on the CT side), high explosive grenade (commonly referred to as HE nade), smoke grenade, flashbang, and decoy. You can only carry one of each, except for the flashbangs; you can have two of those.

The molotov or incendiary

For starters, there is a difference between the two. The terrorists will be able to buy a molotov for $400, whereas the counter-terrorists can buy an incendiary grenade for $600. As you can see the molotov is cheaper. It also has better armour penetration than its counterpart. The incendiary on the other hand deploys faster and can be thrown further.
Both fire grenades, often referred to as a “molly”, will lay down a carpet of flames on the ground wherever they are thrown.

The most direct use of this is preventing the enemy from pushing ahead. They will be heavily damaged if they decide to run through the fire and will very often lose their life to it. In more experienced circuits you will see a molly being stacked to quickly flush an enemy out of their position or even go for the kill. The fire can be cancelled out by a smoke; if you are quick on your wits you will be able to nullify any damage it would have done entirely.

High Explosive Grenade

The grenade in the most classic sense of the word: you throw it, and it goes boom. This bad boy will cost you $300 and is the most directly damaging of all utility. It is often overestimated but will at the very most only deal 57 points of damage against an armoured target. It is more damaging against unarmoured opponents, dealing 98 points of damage. Its biggest strength lies in using multiple at once, where you can stack them and actually get frags with the nades. The most common place where you see this happen is on Inferno, at banana.

Smoke grenade

Remember, smoking is bad for you. Luckily, the smoke grenades are not all that toxic in-game. They cost the same as the HE Grenade, $300. A smoke grenade is perfect for creating a temporary wall to keep other players away. It lasts twenty-five seconds and a good practical example of its use is terrorists attacking a bombsite. You will see smokes being lined up and thrown down around the bomb site. That way counter-terrorists can be singled out and less resistance will be encountered once a team pushes onto the bombsite.

In recent times it has become more common to spray through a smoke, something to definitely be wary of. Smoke is not impenetrable, it just obscures the enemy vision. In some cases people will be bold enough to push right through one; it can work to get the drop on your enemies.

Flashbang

The most literally named piece of utility, a flashbang costs $200. It will not be a surprise that it goes bang, and then gives out a flash. The whole idea of a flashbang is temporarily blinding enemies, taking away their capability to fight back and allowing you to get an easy frag on them. Flashbangs are a type of utility that require excellent teamplay; it is possible to flash alone, but it works so much better when a teammate flashes you in. Flashes can be seen as some of the most difficult to use utility.

Decoy

Hands down the least used piece of utility 토토사이트
out of all five, but also the cheapest at $50. The decoy is an often ignored type of utility that is thrown and will mimic gunfire of the most powerful weapon the player has. This fake gunfire will last for fifteen seconds until the decoy grenade self-detonates. Fun fact, this self-detonation actually deals around five points of damage and could kill an enemy; but the odds of this happening are slim.

After reading this you should have a solid grasp of the utility the game offers, where to throw those smokes, when to pop your flashes and how to time your molotovs. Go out there and spread that utility on the map like a pro.
