Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location where all glue could be removed from its body.

A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.

As soon as the cobra was guided into the red bucket, it was moved to a safe location where the glue could be fully removed.

A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

She said she feels much safer now and is very happy. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. logan snake catcher The snake, however, was in a terrible position.

The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.

Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. An animal's venom could cause the victim's nervous system to shut down.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.

A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.

At that address, Keith and Rebecca Gifford inhabit the house, according to county records. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. He says he has a 7-foot-long zebra cobra on one of his posts.
