INTRODUCTION OF PADAN
Padan is a trick taking card game for two players submitted to Pagat’s invented card game list by Dan Vetter. The rules described below are for a slightly revised version of the game.

In Padan, players will draft four separate hands of cards. They will either keep the hand that they draw, or they will give it to their opponent and follow with another draw. After viewing each hand one time, players will have to choose which one they play with. The first player to earn 100 points wins the game.

THE CARDS & THE DEAL
Padan requires a 52 card deck. Remove the 2’s from the deck. They will be used to determine the trump suit for each hand.

Both players should draw a card from the top of the 48 card deck. Low card will draft first (player 1), and high card will lead the first trick (player 2). Place the two drawn cards back into the deck.

Shuffle the set of 2’s and place them face down off to the side. Turn the top card over to determine the trump suit for the round.

The player that drafts first (player 1) must shuffle the deck and place it face down in the center of the table to form the stock. They draw 6 cards from the stock. After looking at the cards they drafted, they can choose to keep the hand or give it to their opponent (player 2). If they keep the hand, they place it face down in front of them in a pile. If they do not want it, they give it to their opponent. The opponent looks at the cards and places them face down in front of them. They may not look at the cards again until it is time to play with that hand.

Now player 2 gets to draft. They draw 6 cards from the stock and decide to keep them or pass them to player 1. This continues until all 48 cards are drafted. When the draft is complete, each player will have four separate hands of cards in face down piles.

THE PLAY
To begin the game, each player chooses one of their hands to play. Players must choose without first looking at the cards. Once a player picks up the hand, they cannot change their mind.

Player 2 leads the first trick with any card they want. The suit of the card they led must be followed if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card from their hand. The highest card in the suit led or the highest trump card wins the trick. The trick-winner leads next.

Continue playing tricks until there are only three cards left in hand. At this point, each player picks up another hand of cards. With nine cards in possession, play continues with the last person to capture a trick. They lead.

Each time the hand size reduces to three cards, players pick up another hand of cards. The round ends after the final nine cards are played.

Once the score is tallied for the round, collect the cards, shuffle, and draft again. Draft and lead order alternates each round.

SCORING
A player earns 1 point per trick captured.
