Have you ever been upset with the prospect of striving to hire out the latest blockbuster DVD, having to travel to your closest outlet only to find out "they are all booked out". At this point there's an alternative using fast Media Streaming devices via online direct to your Plasma television. In this article you are able to learn just what device may well suit the needs of yours!

This was my experience recently when attempting to lease the Blu-ray Cowboys and Aliens. Which got me thinking, what about purchasing one of the new Media Streamers and fixing it to my Plasma television?

Having a somewhat quick internet speed of 11MBytes/sec would let me start a whole new arena of electronic media, from streaming music files and web radio to HD flicks from the likes of Blinkbox and Netflix. But which device would suit the pc of mine, since my internet router is situated in my study upstairs.

I could purchase a keyboard including the more expensive D-Link Boxee including a wireless connection or possibly spend less money and go with the new Sony SMP-N200 that is much more of a simple streamer at half the price.

Further Investigation

Since being released a few years ago the D-Link Boxee that had been in a position to play a broad range of video & music files has undergone a software update. It's price tag is 200 and could play good quality sound formats (WAV and FLAC) as well as HD video (inc MKV files).Outputs include two USB sockets to allow it to connect with external systems which might include an external Hard drive. This will effectively generate an affordable server. Also the Boxee will communicate with any NAS (Networked Storage Device) on the product of yours which will let you to browse your library of video, music and media data.

Interestingly, Boxee at this point features a committed BBC iPlayer app onboard that means it is easier to navigate around and as long as you have a minimum of 2MB/sec internet speed, browsing quality should not be an issue.

However what struck the interest of mine the most was the basic fact that the movie streaming provider Blinkbox had now signed up to include your own Film app as well. YouTube was also catered for and a big plus for music fans the addition of Spotify.

It appears D-Link are on to a winner here!!

Have you thought about a viable solution? Well as I pointed out before the Sony SMP-N200 can give an easy Smart TV upgrade.Coming in at only under ninety nine it can additionally play a variety of sound and video files, although it will not manage AAC or MKV Files over the network.it will however play both these formats via its USB input.

Wifi is included by this device and its software menus are not difficult to navigate around and akin to those found on its Blu ray players and also TVs. A huge plus for those of us with slightly older TVs is the point that the SMP N200 also sports analogue audio and component video outputs.

If you own a 3D Flat Screen TV, Sony could also display 3D Video both online and via USB. Whether you're streaming the BBC iPlayer in HD or even using the Video of its Unlimited movie service, we've been told the sound and picture quality is superb.
