Hey everyone welcome back, and today, I'm gon na be giving you a buyer's guide on the Samsung q8e R. Now this comes having recently professionally calibrated it, I'm gon na, be giving you all the scoop on this product so that you know whether it's worth your time or not. This is not a hands-on review with the product, so, if you're looking for that, unfortunately, that's not what this is. Instead, this is just giving you good information so that again you can make stronger buying options and choices. Now, when we look at this product, I think one of the immediate things again that you're gon na notice is going to be the continuing pattern that Samsung has had this year and Samsung this year is pretty much downgrading all of their TVs and coming from the Samsung q 8fn: that's what i'm going to be directly comparing this to, i think, even just off of using the samsung q AF in for as many months as i have i'm pretty good at gauging, just how wonderful the performance is granted. I did not do a direct side-by-side, but I can tell you just off of what I remember. It'S definitely off. The first thing that I noticed is that blooming still remains a problem, much like the samsung q 9. Dr now, of course, this will vary from panel to panel. Hence the name panel lottery, of course, and if you haven't heard of the panel lottery, that's just basically where you have to keep rolling the dice or playing the lottery until you get lucky with a perfectly uniform display. Now like it is no exception to that and unfortunately you can get all kinds of defects. One of our community members even got a defect where it basically looked like a TCL. R61. 7. You can see the individual LEDs in the dirty screen effect and it was just really distracting and really bad. I don't know what's going on with Samsung's quality control this year, but they're definitely taking a break. It'S definitely an off year or a stopgap year of some. Would say for Samsung now that doesn't mean it's all bad. They do obviously have a quantum dot color and, as I've been saying, if you're coming from something older or more outdated - and that's all you're really looking for, then this is gon na be a great buy. For you, input lag is obviously going to be the same as it usually is every year around that, so it's pretty responsive, Samsung generally does really good in this category. However, when you look at things like motion motion is where things that take a turn for the worst, it is still jarring. You still do have that verb, Oh Bandung and I still did run into some slight, albeit not as bad as on the q9 er motion. Sickness when looking at the so proper effect, and even when turning it off just due to some vertical banding and dirty screen effect issues Samsung this year has to get it together, because I mean it can't all be this bad. Is that kind of how I feel then I feel maybe if they could patch something, maybe if they could work on quality control down the road in some other aspect, because it's almost staggeringly unbelievable that a company would launch a product line full of premium TVs priced At $ 2,000 that perform as poorly but that's what samsung has done this year. Unfortunately, when giving honest feedback on the experience that you're going to have it's going to be received as negative by a lot of people, so unfortunately that's kind of the nature of the beast. That'S what a lot of people are gon na end up feeling. At the end of this - and I'm pretty sorry about that because, unfortunately, I'm not gon na talk up Samsung when they didn't earn it because again, I'm not sponsored so I'm not here to give lip service just to get free products. I'M giving you the honest information. So, as a consumer, you can again invest your money wisely and unfortunately, with Samsung this year, there is no wise investment you're missing component in composites, as you guys know, as I've mentioned on their entry-level TVs. They have that in this year. So of course they're. Okay with doing that this year, as I've mentioned, so it just feels like you're, just getting scaled back and they're still sticking with this premium pricing. It'S built entirely out of cheap plastic, ripped off the design almost entirely of the q8 fn- defeat, which stays took from the entry-level televisions. And, quite honestly, I don't know a soul alive that would like these feet, because the way that they're arranged you have almost zero wire management, because unless you want to fold and crumble up your wires, this definitely isn't a good option for almost anyone out there. Now again, when talking about the positive things, the anti-reflective coating will help mitigate a lot of those reflections and unwanted bright spots that can happen from lamps and other lighting sources in your room, which is absolutely fantastic and if you're a fan of ambience. That makes its way back into this display, so you can again have like various little pictures and things that kind of sit statically on your television as you're, doing whatever the most useful application of something like ambient mode for me. So far has been when I use the sound mirroring option and mirror my phone to my television just to test out the speakers to see how it sounds. While we're talking about that, the speakers on the television are pretty decent for a television of again being just been, and not really like the most robust, with a full on sound system integrated, it does a fairly decent job. It'S sharp it's clear and there is more than enough bass to be enjoyable, albeit nothing that's going to replace the sound bar now, if you're low on funds after purchasing the television, you won't necessarily need to just run out and buy a sound bar, because, yes, the Sound is good enough to get you by or a couple of dry months or weeks or, however long it takes until you can get the sound bar or sound system you're. Looking for now in terms of picture quality, I would say that this is pretty hit and miss. It does some good points in the picture quality where it is impressive and the colors are striking. Well, with the contrast and really looking like a high-end display like the blacks, get dark and things look beautiful, but then in other scenes it's just bright and sloppy, and you see bright spots in the black levels and it just really is an indicative of this tier Of product, I want to say more positive things about Samsung this year, but unfortunately they're not lending themselves to such a a review or such a craze, and unfortunately it's just just not good this year now, in terms of the remote, it's still the same: cheap entry-level Plastic remote that the QA defin has with a minor edition of now you have the Amazon Prime Netflix and Hulu buttons. You know that's cool for a shortcut. So if that's something that you like you like being you know really quick and snappy with getting into streaming. That'S an option there and it works fairly well other than that all the same features for turn. You still have your TV Guide menu options. I mean literally everything you had last year, except for a couple modes. As I've mentioned, they did rip out HDR plus mode, which turns SDR and 2h. So if you're, somebody that likes to again just enhance your content, a little further with onboard picture processing, that's one less option that you do have and you're paying more than the queue 8fn by comparison, the Samsung queue 8fn 55-inch is going for in the somewhere. In the ballpark of 1,200 to about 1,300 everyday price, where this television pretty much sits at $ 2,000, almost all the time and that's a lot of cash when you're talking about again a 55 inch, that's doing less performing less and then also having less. With contrast, and just versatility in usage, even missing feature sets it's just not that great of a deal now, of course, you can always calibrate your television and try to draw more from the television, but one of the problems that Samsung continues with this year is their Color management system is really poorly implemented, so when calibrating, it's still not gon na give you accurate color because they're missing those was fine science and they're missing the richness and the purity behind certain colors and the color correction option, which is mind-boggling to me because it Never used to be like that. So that's another little weakness. If you do plan on calibrating that you do have to worry about. Fortunately, you still do have Cal night and Cal day. Makeup return back for calibrators, so you can have dedicated motes for calibration and I think that's again a very positive thing, but ultimately guys this is definitely a television. I would pass on the brightness of this television. Isn'T anything to write home about it's, not ultra spectacular. It'S within reason from what we've been seeing: it's about the average. Yes, it's over a thousand nits, but no it's not something. That'S going to bring the house down and make you you know believe in 4k TVs again. This is something that again is just put out to appease shareholders and to appease people who are looking for the yearly turnout of televisions. It'S not anything that a customer who has a 4k TV would need worry themselves about. So if you're somebody sitting on an older in 4k TV, I would just keep that if you're somebody who again is coming from something really outdated and it's time to upgrade, I would highly suggest waiting a little longer in the year. Some decent alternatives would be the vizio this year or even from 2018, because they have some excellent black levels for budget pricing now Vizio's last year, don't have quantum dots and this year they will. This is by no stretch the imagination, a plug for Vizio. It'S just literally saying that for the money you can, you can get so much more, I'm just saying if you spend $ 2,000 with Vizio walking away with 65 inches and quantum dots we're here. That'S just not the case and I think that's the problem because again, when they're charging above the price point now of the Vizio P series, quantum you're, probably better off, if you can find it at somewhere like a Costco's BJ's, all these warehouse type deal stores. Usually I found do have a couple in stock or you can order online. I think you're better off just doing that as an option, because this is just disappointing. It really is now one last and final thing to the credit of this television. They do have improved viewing angles this year and that's fantastic, but ultimately it does come at the expense of overall picture quality and image performance and overall, the TV just performs like a boat. So hopefully you guys pass on this one and save your money.
