Cows are fairly prevalent mobs in the Overworld area of Minecraft. Minecraft silk touch enchant are a source of leather, milk and raw beef.

Cows spawn in groups of 4 on grass blocks as long as there is a light level of nine or higher and there are at minimum two blocks of empty (air) space above them, but not in the Snowy Tundra biomes, Mushroom Fields and variants.

Soon after the initial generation of the game world, they spawn individually whether or not there are cows nearby.

A small number (5%) spawn as baby cows.

Cows can spawn inside animal pens and butchers' houses in villages.

Cows in Minecraft, just as in real life, are very boring and moo and breathe a lot while wandering around. Cows do their best to steer clear of water, hot lava, and falling off high cliffs. If they are attacked, they try to flee.

Cows will follow a player who is holding wheat, but stops following if separated from the player by at least 8 blocks.

When you provide wheat to cows, they enter love mode and pair off to create calves, granting the player a 1-7 experience orbs. The parent cows have a cooldown of 5 minutes before they can breed again. All babies obtained by breeding take 20 minutes to grow up. The growth of baby cows can be slowly accelerated using wheat; each time you feed a young calf, the remaining time needed to grow is reduced by ten percent.
